Your 20 minute timer is ready
The timer is already set to 20 minutes. Press Start and the countdown begins: the digits, the progress bar and the tab title all show the time left. When it reaches zero, the sound rings until you stop it. Twenty minutes is the classic power nap, and a solid block for reading, homework or a workout.
What a 20 minute timer is good for
- Power nap: The Power nap preset in Relax lasts 20 minutes, short enough to wake up before deep sleep.
- Homework block: A good length for younger students before a short break.
- Workout: A 20-minute interval session or an easy jog.
- Muffins: Regular-size muffins usually bake in 18 to 22 minutes.
- Quick marinade: Fish and shrimp need only 15 to 30 minutes in a marinade.
- Reading: Twenty minutes of reading a day is a common goal for kids in school.
- Short meeting: A tight check-in that ends on time.
- Cleaning sprint: One room from top to bottom, music on, done before the sound.
20 minutes in seconds, and what fits in them
20 minutes is 1,200 seconds, one third of an hour. A popular rule for screen work is 20-20-20: every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet away for 20 seconds to rest your eyes. Twenty minutes is also the classic power nap: long enough to rest, short enough to stay in light sleep.
A tip for your 20 minutes
For a nap, lie down first, then start the timer. You can also use the online alarm clock in “in” mode, with night mode for a dark screen. If 20 minutes is too long, the 15 minute timer is lighter; for a full study session, step up to the 30 minute timer.
How to use the 20 minute timer
- Press Start. The countdown runs from 20 minutes down to zero.
- Pick a sound if you like. Turn the list to hear a bell, a chime, a classic beep, a digital beep or a gentle rise.
- Switch tabs freely. The countdown follows your device clock and stays exact. Keep this tab open to hear the sound.
- Stop the sound at zero, or tap +1 min if you need a little longer.
Need another length? Turn the minute wheel, or tap the digits and type the time on the keypad. The online timer also has presets for cooking, sport and relaxing, and a full screen mode that makes the countdown readable from across the room.
