Your 1 minute timer is ready

The timer is already set to 1 minute. Press Start and the countdown begins: the digits, the progress bar and the tab title all show the time left. When it reaches zero, the sound rings until you stop it. Sixty seconds pass quickly, yet they are enough for a plank, a few slow breaths or a quick challenge with the kids.

What a 1 minute timer is good for

  • Plank: Hold a front plank for one full minute. The Plank preset in the Sport category runs the same 60 seconds with its own illustration.
  • Breathing break: Breathe in for four seconds and out for six. That is six slow breaths, a simple way to calm down between two tasks.
  • Handwashing with kids: Health agencies recommend scrubbing for at least 20 seconds. One minute covers soap, scrubbing, rinsing and drying.
  • Elevator pitch: Practice a one-minute introduction for an interview or a networking event. At a normal pace, that is about 130 to 150 words.
  • Party games: Classic one-minute challenges: stack cups, name ten animals or keep a balloon in the air.
  • Tidy-up race: Kids put away as many toys as they can before the sound. Cleanup turns into a game.
  • Wall sit: Back against the wall, knees bent at a right angle, and hold until zero. Rest with the 2 minute timer, then go again.

1 minute in seconds, and what fits in it

1 minute is 60 seconds, one sixtieth of an hour. In that time, a resting adult heart beats roughly 60 to 100 times, and light travels about 11 million miles. To find out how long you can really hold a plank, start the stopwatch instead and try to beat your record.

A tip for your 1 minute

Use one minute to beat procrastination. Promise yourself to work on the task for just 60 seconds. Starting is the hardest part, and once the sound rings you will often want to carry on. Tap +1 min to keep going, or switch to the 5 minute timer for a longer push.

How to use the 1 minute timer

  1. Press Start. The countdown runs from 1 minute down to zero.
  2. Pick a sound if you like. Turn the list to hear a bell, a chime, a classic beep, a digital beep or a gentle rise.
  3. Switch tabs freely. The countdown follows your device clock and stays exact. Keep this tab open to hear the sound.
  4. Stop the sound at zero, or tap +1 min if you need a little longer.

Need another length? Turn the minute wheel, or tap the digits and type the time on the keypad. The online timer also has presets for cooking, sport and relaxing, and a full screen mode that makes the countdown readable from across the room.
