Your 30 minute timer is ready
The timer is already set to 30 minutes. Press Start and the countdown begins: the digits, the progress bar and the tab title all show the time left. When it reaches zero, the sound rings until you stop it. Half an hour is a natural unit of time for workouts, homework, cooking and focused work.
What a 30 minute timer is good for
- Workout: A brisk walk, a bike ride or a strength session.
- Homework: One subject at a time, then a short break.
- Lentils: Green or brown lentils simmer in about 20 to 30 minutes.
- Chicken thighs: Bone-in thighs roast at 425°F in about 30 to 40 minutes. Check that they reach 165°F inside.
- Screen time: A clear, visible limit for a show or a game.
- Meeting: Keep a meeting to half an hour and show the countdown on the shared screen.
- Reading before bed: Thirty minutes with a book instead of a screen.
- Gardening: Weed one bed or water the plants without losing track of time.
- Language lesson: Half an hour is a typical length for an online lesson or a listening session.
30 minutes in seconds, and what fits in them
30 minutes is 1,800 seconds, half an hour. Five sessions of 30 minutes a week add up to 150 minutes, the amount of moderate physical activity the CDC recommends for adults each week.
A tip for your 30 minutes
Break big projects into half-hour blocks. After each one, write down what you finished and what comes next: it makes the next block easier to start. Prefer shorter rounds with automatic breaks? Try the Pomodoro timer or the 25 minute timer. For a full class period, the 45 minute timer fits better.
How to use the 30 minute timer
- Press Start. The countdown runs from 30 minutes down to zero.
- Pick a sound if you like. Turn the list to hear a bell, a chime, a classic beep, a digital beep or a gentle rise.
- Switch tabs freely. The countdown follows your device clock and stays exact. Keep this tab open to hear the sound.
- Stop the sound at zero, or tap +1 min if you need a little longer.
Need another length? Turn the minute wheel, or tap the digits and type the time on the keypad. The online timer also has presets for cooking, sport and relaxing, and a full screen mode that makes the countdown readable from across the room.
