Your 60 minute timer is ready
The timer is already set to 60 minutes. Press Start and the countdown begins: the digits, the progress bar and the tab title all show the time left. When it reaches zero, the sound rings until you stop it. One full hour: an exam, a dish in the oven, a long study session or a parking spot.
What a 60 minute timer is good for
- Exam or practice test: A one-hour paper under real conditions.
- Bread dough: A first rise often takes about an hour, until the dough has doubled.
- Baked potatoes: Large potatoes bake at 400°F in about an hour.
- Study session: One subject, one hour, then a real break. For half the time, use the 30 minute timer.
- Parking: Start the timer when you leave the car at a one-hour meter.
- Laundry: Many washing machine cycles last about an hour.
- Gaming or screen time: One hour, clearly visible, with no debate when the sound rings.
- Long workout: A full session with a warm-up and stretching.
60 minutes in seconds, and what fits in them
60 minutes is 3,600 seconds. We divide the hour into 60 minutes thanks to the ancient Babylonians, who counted in base 60. The same system gives us 60 seconds in a minute and 360 degrees in a circle.
A tip for your 60 minutes
During a long countdown, check the time left in the tab title while you work in other tabs. Need more than an hour? On the main timer page, tap Hours in the bar below to add hours, up to 23 h 59 min. To get back to the car with time to spare, set the 45 minute timer instead, and for a reminder at a set time of day, the alarm clock is the better tool.
How to use the 60 minute timer
- Press Start. The countdown runs from 60 minutes down to zero.
- Pick a sound if you like. Turn the list to hear a bell, a chime, a classic beep, a digital beep or a gentle rise.
- Switch tabs freely. The countdown follows your device clock and stays exact. Keep this tab open to hear the sound.
- Stop the sound at zero, or tap +1 min if you need a little longer.
Need another length? Turn the minute wheel, or tap the digits and type the time on the keypad. The online timer also has presets for cooking, sport and relaxing, and a full screen mode that makes the countdown readable from across the room.
