Your 25 minute timer is ready

The timer is already set to 25 minutes. Press Start and the countdown begins: the digits, the progress bar and the tab title all show the time left. When it reaches zero, the sound rings until you stop it. Twenty-five minutes is one Pomodoro: a single block of focused work on one task, with no distractions.

What a 25 minute timer is good for

  • One Pomodoro: Work on a single task until the sound. For automatic breaks and rounds, use the Pomodoro timer.
  • Study block: Read a chapter and write a short summary before a break.
  • Writing sprint: Write as many words as you can without editing. For a longer sprint, use the 30 minute timer.
  • Brownies: Many recipes for a square pan bake in about 25 to 30 minutes.
  • Roasted potatoes: Cubed potatoes roast at 425°F in about 25 to 30 minutes, turned once.
  • Yoga session: A short flow with a few minutes of rest at the end.
  • Deep clean: The kitchen or the bathroom, from top to bottom.
  • Practice session: A focused block on an instrument or a language.

25 minutes in seconds, and what fits in them

25 minutes is 1,500 seconds. It is the length Francesco Cirillo chose for his Pomodoro Technique in the late 1980s, named after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer he used as a student. Four Pomodoros with short breaks fill about two hours.

A tip for your 25 minutes

Before you press Start, write down the one task for this session. If another idea pops up, jot it on paper and get back to work. When the sound rings, take a real break with the 5 minute timer: stand up, move and look away from the screen.

How to use the 25 minute timer

  1. Press Start. The countdown runs from 25 minutes down to zero.
  2. Pick a sound if you like. Turn the list to hear a bell, a chime, a classic beep, a digital beep or a gentle rise.
  3. Switch tabs freely. The countdown follows your device clock and stays exact. Keep this tab open to hear the sound.
  4. Stop the sound at zero, or tap +1 min if you need a little longer.

Need another length? Turn the minute wheel, or tap the digits and type the time on the keypad. The online timer also has presets for cooking, sport and relaxing, and a full screen mode that makes the countdown readable from across the room.

Questions

How many seconds are in 25 minutes?

25 minutes is 1,500 seconds. The timer counts them down on screen, and the tab title shows the time left too.

Why is a Pomodoro 25 minutes?

Francesco Cirillo found that 25 minutes was long enough to make progress and short enough to stay focused. It is a starting point: many people later adjust it to 30, 45 or 50 minutes.

What do I do after 25 minutes?

Take a short break of about 5 minutes, then start another round. After four rounds, take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. The Pomodoro timer on this site chains all of this for you.

Can I add time when the 25 minute timer ends?

Yes. When the sound rings, tap +1 min to add one more minute. Tap it again for another, or press Reset to start over.

Is the 25 minute timer free?

Yes. There is no account and no app to install, and once the page has loaded, the timer and its sounds work offline.
