Wake up at 5:45 AM
5:45 AM is an early start. Whether you have a flight to catch, a shift to open or a run before sunrise, this page is ready to wake you at 5:45 AM. Pick a sound, press Set alarm and make the most of a short night. Night mode keeps the screen almost black while you sleep.
Who gets up at 5:45 AM?
- Gym-goers and runners who train before work, while the streets are still quiet.
- Commuters catching an early train or beating the traffic.
- Parents who want some calm before the house wakes up.
- Early risers inspired by morning routines like the one in Robin Sharma’s book The 5 AM Club.
- Photographers and hikers heading out to catch the sunrise.
In June, the sun rises around 5:15 to 5:30 AM in cities like New York and Chicago, so a 5 AM alarm can mean starting the day with daylight. In winter, it stays dark for about two more hours.
When to go to bed for a 5:45 AM alarm
A night of sleep is a series of cycles of roughly 90 minutes. The alarm is easier to face when it rings between two cycles rather than during deep sleep. Allowing about 15 minutes to drift off, here is when to go to bed for 5:45 AM:
- 8:30 PM: 6 cycles, about 9 hours of sleep
- 10:00 PM: 5 cycles, about 7.5 hours of sleep
- 11:30 PM: 4 cycles, about 6 hours of sleep
Before a very early start, four or five cycles are often more realistic than six, which would mean going to bed around 8:30 PM.
These are general rules of thumb, not medical advice. Cycle length varies from person to person and from night to night.
Tips for waking up at 5:45 AM
- Get ready the night before. Lay out your clothes, pack your bag and keep tickets or keys by the door.
- Set a backup. Open a second tab and set another alarm 10 minutes later. Each tab holds one alarm.
- Turn on a bright light as soon as you are up. It helps your body accept that the day has started.
- Plan a short nap if the night was short: the 20 minute timer is ideal in the early afternoon.
Need more margin? The 5:15 AM alarm gives you an extra half hour. Rather sleep 30 minutes more? Try the 6:15 AM alarm.
How to use the 5:45 AM alarm
- Check the time. The wheels already show 5:45 AM. Turn them, or tap a number, to change it.
- Choose a sound. Turn the list to hear the bell, the chime, the classic beep, the digital beep or the gentle rise, and choose whether it rings until you stop it or just once.
- Press Set alarm. The page confirms your choice, for example “Set for 5:45 AM, with a bell”, and counts down the time left. Night mode then fades the screen to black.
- Keep this tab open and the computer awake. When it rings, press Stop, or Snooze 5 min for a little more sleep.
