A countdown for any date
A launch, a wedding, the end of an early-bird price, the first day of a festival, an exam: the countdown shows how long is left in days, hours, minutes and seconds, with your title above. When it reaches zero, the numbers make way for your message, “Doors are open!” or “We’re live!”, and the widget stays that way for anyone who opens the page later.
Same instant for everyone, or midnight for each visitor
This is the one setting worth thinking about. A countdown set to your time reaches zero at the same instant all over the world. If you launch at 6:00 PM in Paris, a visitor in New York sees the countdown end at noon their time (Paris is six hours ahead for most of the year), which is right: that is when the launch happens. A countdown set to each visitor’s time ends at the same clock time everywhere, a different instant in each country. That is what you want for New Year’s Eve or a birthday, but not for a live event.
| Event | Time zone to pick |
|---|---|
| Product launch, live stream, webinar, sale ending | Your time |
| Wedding, conference, festival in one place | Your time (the time of the place) |
| New Year’s Eve, Christmas, a birthday | Each visitor’s time |
Units and message
Seconds make a countdown feel alive, but on a page that people read for a while they can distract. The units frame offers days to minutes, days only (handy for “12 days to go”), or hours to seconds for the last day. With days only, the widget counts calendar days left, so the evening before the date shows 1, not 0.
If you leave the message empty, the widget shows “It’s time!” in the language of the widget. For a countdown on Clooock itself, with a sound at zero and a share link, open the countdown to a date. Ready-made countdowns exist for New Year and Halloween.
