For teachers and class sites

Google Sites is popular in schools, and the widgets fit classroom needs: a countdown to the next exam or to the school trip, a timer for a timed exercise shown on the projector, a clock with the time of a partner school abroad. The timer starts with a tap on the board, and the sound can be turned off for a quiet room.

Good to know

Google Sites places embeds in a box that you resize by hand; the widget fills it. The embed works for everyone who can see the site, including visitors outside your organization if the site is public.

For a display screen in a classroom or a hall, a whole page can show the widget alone: in the Pages panel, hover over + and choose Full page embed, then paste the code. Open that page in full screen on the projector and the countdown fills it.

Questions

Should I paste the code or the link?

Both work. The link is shorter and gives the widget alone. The code adds the small clooock.com credit link below the widget.

The widget is cut off. What should I do?

Drag the corners of the embed box in the editor to make it bigger. The digits resize to fit the new box.

Can students start the timer?

Yes. Anyone who opens the page can start, pause and reset it. Each person controls their own copy.
