How it works

    Set the end date and time in your own time zone, a title and a message for zero.

  2. Copy the code

    Tap Code for your site.

  3. Add a Custom Liquid section

    Online Store, Themes, Customize, Add section, Custom Liquid. Paste and save.

Step by step in the theme editor

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes and click Customize on your theme.
  2. Open the page template where the countdown should appear (home page, a product, a collection).
  3. Click Add section and choose Custom Liquid. Most recent themes, such as Dawn, include it. Some themes also offer a Custom Liquid block inside a section.
  4. Paste the code in the Liquid field and click Save.

Honest countdowns only

A countdown should end when something really ends: a sale, a preorder window, the last day for delivery before Christmas. Timers that reset for each visitor to create false urgency are not just bad manners. In the European Union, falsely stating that a product will only be available for a very limited time is one of the commercial practices banned in all circumstances (Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, Annex I, point 7). This widget counts down to one fixed date, the same for every visitor, which is what an honest offer needs.

When the date passes, the widget shows your message. Remember to remove the section once the offer is over.

Questions

My theme has no Custom Liquid section. What can I do?

Look for a Custom Liquid block inside another section, such as a rich text or product information section. Otherwise, the theme’s code editor lets you add a section, or your theme developer can help.

Does it work on product pages?

Yes. Add the Custom Liquid section or block to the product template. It then shows on every product that uses this template.

Will the countdown reset when a visitor comes back?

No. It counts down to the date in the code, the same for every visitor and every visit.
