St. Damasus I, December 11
Pope from 366 to 384, Damasus asked St. Jerome to revise the Latin Bible, which became the Vulgate. He restored the catacombs and wrote verses in honor of the martyrs buried there. He also made Latin the main language of the liturgy in Rome.
On the General Roman Calendar, December 11 is an optional memorial: Saint Damasus I, pope.
