St. Sabbas, December 5
A monk from Cappadocia, Sabbas (439-532) founded the Great Lavra in the Judean desert, now called Mar Saba. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited monasteries in the world. He was a leader of the monks of Palestine.
December 5 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Sabbas, abbot on this date.
