St. Rupert of Salzburg, March 27
A Frankish bishop, Rupert came to Bavaria around 700 and refounded the old Roman town of Juvavum as Salzburg. He built St. Peter’s Abbey and promoted the region’s salt mines. He is the patron of Salzburg and of Austria’s salt miners.
March 27 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Rupert, bishop of Salzburg on this date.
