One hour less sleep, one hour more

The short night, 23 hours long, is the night of Saturday, March 11 in the US, and of Saturday, March 25 in Europe. The long nights, 25 hours, are those before November 5 in the US and October 29 in Europe. To get ready for the spring change, go to bed 15 minutes earlier for a few nights; the sleep calculator can help.

When the time gaps shift

North America and Europe don’t change on the same day. For 14 days in spring (March 12 to March 26) and 7 days in the fall (October 29 to November 5), New York is only 4 hours behind London and 5 behind Paris, instead of 5 and 6. Meetings and flights scheduled across the Atlantic move by an hour in those weeks; check them with the time zone converter.

Will clocks still change in 2028?

Yes, unless the law changes first. In the US, the Sunshine Protection Act passed the House in July 2026 but still needs the Senate and the President’s signature. In the EU, a new law would need both the Parliament and the member states, and countries still disagree on which time to keep. 2028 is a leap year, but February 29 has no effect on these dates.

The US period lasts 238 days, from March 12 to November 5. Europe changes a little earlier than in 2027, on March 26 and October 29.
