St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen, April 24
A lawyer known as the “poor man’s advocate,” Fidelis (1578-1622) became a Capuchin friar. Sent to preach in the Grisons region of Switzerland, he was killed by Calvinist peasants in revolt. He was the first martyr of the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith.
On the General Roman Calendar, April 24 is an optional memorial: Saint Fidelis of Sigmaringen, priest and martyr.
