St. Lydia, August 3
A dealer in purple cloth from Thyatira, Lydia lived in Philippi in Macedonia. Acts tells how she listened to Paul by a river, was baptized with her household and opened her home to the apostles. She is considered the first Christian convert in Europe.
August 3 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Lydia on this date.
