St. Paul the First Hermit, January 15
According to St. Jerome, Paul fled to the Egyptian desert during the persecution of Decius around 250 and lived alone there for nearly a century. St. Anthony the Great visited him shortly before his death. He is honored as the first Christian hermit.
January 15 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Paul of Thebes, hermit on this date.
