St. Mary Magdalene, July 22
A disciple from Magdala in Galilee, Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross and was the first to find the empty tomb. In John’s Gospel she is the first witness of the Resurrection, sent to tell the others; hence her title “apostle to the apostles.” Pope Francis raised her day to a feast in 2016.
On the General Roman Calendar, July 22 is a feast: Saint Mary Magdalene.
