St. Boniface, June 5
An English monk named Wynfrith, Boniface (c. 675-754) spent his life evangelizing Germany, organizing dioceses and founding the abbey of Fulda. Legend says he cut down a sacred oak of Thor. He was killed by bandits in Frisia while preparing to confirm new Christians.
On the General Roman Calendar, June 5 is a memorial: Saint Boniface, bishop and martyr.
