St. Medard, June 8
Bishop of Noyon in the sixth century, Medard was a friend of the Merovingian kings and of St. Radegund. French weather lore says that if it rains on his day, it will rain for forty days. He is also said to have started the custom of crowning a virtuous girl “rosière” in his village.
June 8 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Medard, bishop of Noyon on this date.
