St. Matilda, March 14
Wife of Henry the Fowler, king of Germany, and mother of the emperor Otto I, Matilda (c. 895-968) was known for her generosity to the poor. Her sons accused her of draining the treasury. As a widow she founded monasteries, including Quedlinburg, where she is buried.
March 14 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Matilda, queen on this date.
