St. Nicholas of Flüe, March 21
A Swiss farmer, soldier and father of ten, Nicholas left home at 50, with his wife’s consent, to live as a hermit. His advice in 1481 kept the Swiss cantons from civil war. He is the patron of Switzerland, where he is known as Bruder Klaus.
March 21 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Nicholas of Flüe, hermit on this date.

Keeping March 21
March 21 falls in spring. Since the general calendar has no celebration that day, the Mass is usually that of the weekday of the season, and the saint may be remembered in local calendars or in personal prayer. Families who keep name days often mark the day with a card, a candle or a favorite meal, and parishes named after the saint may hold a festival.
