St. Joan of Arc, May 30
A peasant girl from Lorraine, Joan (c. 1412-1431) said voices told her to save France. She lifted the siege of Orléans and had Charles VII crowned at Reims, then was captured, tried for heresy and burned at Rouen on May 30, 1431, at 19. She was canonized in 1920 and is a patron of France.

Families who keep name days often mark the day with a card, a candle or a favorite meal, and parishes named after the saint may hold a festival.
