St. Pelagia, October 8
A famous actress and dancer of Antioch in the fifth century, Pelagia converted after hearing Bishop Nonnus preach. She went to Jerusalem and lived as a hermit on the Mount of Olives, dressed as a monk named Pelagius. Only at her death was it found that she was a woman.
October 8 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Pelagia the Penitent on this date.
