St. Faustina Kowalska, October 5
A Polish nun of humble origins, Faustina (1905-1938) recorded in her diary visions of Jesus asking that his mercy be made known. From them came the Divine Mercy image and chaplet. She was canonized in 2000; in the U.S., Bl. Francis Xavier Seelos is also remembered today.
On the General Roman Calendar, October 5 is an optional memorial: Saint Faustina Kowalska, virgin.
