St. Vincent de Paul, September 27
The son of peasants from southwestern France, Vincent de Paul (1581-1660) discovered the misery of the countryside as chaplain to a noble family. He founded the Congregation of the Mission and, with St. Louise de Marillac, the Daughters of Charity. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, founded later, carries his name.
On the General Roman Calendar, September 27 is a memorial: Saint Vincent de Paul, priest.
