St. Silverius, June 20
Son of Pope Hormisdas, Silverius became pope in 536 while Rome was caught between the Goths and Byzantium. The empress Theodora had him deposed and exiled, and he died in 537 on the island of Palmarola. He is honored as a martyr.
June 20 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Silverius, pope and martyr on this date.

Families who keep name days often mark the day with a card, a candle or a favorite meal, and parishes named after the saint may hold a festival.
