St. Rose Venerini, May 7
Daughter of a doctor in Viterbo, Rose Venerini (1656-1728) opened the first public school for girls in Italy in 1685. Her Venerini Sisters went on to found schools across the country, including in Rome at the pope’s request. She was canonized in 2006.
May 7 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Rose Venerini, virgin on this date.

Keeping May 7
May 7 falls in May, the month of Mary. Since the general calendar has no celebration that day, the Mass is usually that of the weekday of the season, and the saint may be remembered in local calendars or in personal prayer. Families who keep name days often mark the day with a card, a candle or a favorite meal, and parishes named after the saint may hold a festival.
