St. Mechtilde, November 19
A nun of the monastery of Helfta, in Saxony, Mechtilde (1241-1298) directed its choir and school and was known as the “nightingale of Christ.” Her visions, written down by St. Gertrude and others, form the Book of Special Grace. She helped spread devotion to the Sacred Heart.
November 19 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Mechtilde of Hackeborn, virgin on this date.
