St. Clement I, November 23
Bishop of Rome at the end of the first century, Clement wrote a letter to the church in Corinth that is one of the oldest Christian writings outside the New Testament. Tradition says he was exiled to Crimea and drowned with an anchor. Today the U.S. also remembers Bl. Miguel Pro, Jesuit martyr of Mexico.
On the General Roman Calendar, November 23 is an optional memorial: Saint Clement I, pope and martyr.
