St. Wilfrid, October 12
A monk of Lindisfarne who traveled to Rome and Gaul, Wilfrid (c. 634-709) championed Roman customs, including the date of Easter, at the Synod of Whitby in 664. As bishop of York he faced several exiles and evangelized Sussex. He founded many monasteries in England.
October 12 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Wilfrid, bishop on this date.
