St. Edward the Confessor, October 13
King of England from 1042 to 1066, Edward was known for his piety and built Westminster Abbey, where he is buried. His death without an heir opened the way to the Norman Conquest. He was canonized in 1161; his main feast in England falls on October 13, the day his relics were moved.
October 13 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Edward the Confessor, king on this date.
