St. Demetrius, October 26
Demetrius was a deacon or a soldier, by different traditions, martyred at Thessalonica around 306. The great basilica of Hagios Demetrios was built over his tomb. He is one of the most venerated warrior saints of the Eastern Churches.
October 26 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Demetrius of Thessalonica, martyr on this date.
