Black Friday 2026: Friday, November 27
Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, so it always falls between November 23 and 29. In 2026, it is on Friday, November 27. The countdown above aims at midnight, when many online sales start. If your favorite store opens its deals at another time, tap the time and set it: you will hear a bell at the exact minute.
Where the name comes from
A common story says stores went “into the black”, back to profit, on that day. It is a later explanation: its earliest known use dates from 1981. The name actually comes from Philadelphia, where police officers used “Black Friday” in the 1950s and 1960s for the huge traffic jams and crowds the day after Thanksgiving. An earlier mention, from 1951, used it for the many workers who called in sick that Friday to get a four-day weekend.
The day spread to many countries in the 2010s, often over a whole week. The Monday after is known as Cyber Monday, for online deals.

Tips to shop calmly
- Make a list of what you really need before the day, with a budget.
- Check prices now: knowing the usual price is the best way to spot a real deal.
- Set the countdown to the opening time of a sale and share the link with friends who want the same thing.
- Keep an eye on the clock: flash deals often last an hour. The online timer helps.
