Easter 2027 is on Sunday, March 28
Unlike Christmas, Easter moves every year. The countdown above works out the date on its own, with the same rule the churches use, and counts down to the start of Easter Sunday in your time zone. In 2027, Easter Sunday is on Sunday, March 28.
How the date of Easter is set
Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon that falls on or after March 21. If that full moon falls on a Sunday, Easter is the Sunday after. The principle goes back to the Council of Nicaea, in 325. The “full moon” here is not the one you see in the sky: it comes from church tables, a calculation called the computus, and March 21 is a fixed date that stands for the spring equinox. As a result, Western Easter always falls between March 22 and April 25.
Orthodox churches use the same principle with the older Julian calendar. Their Easter falls between April 4 and May 8 in our calendar (from 1900 to 2099), and sometimes on the same day as Western Easter, as on April 20, 2025.
Several holidays follow Easter: Good Friday is two days before, Ascension Day 39 days after and Pentecost 49 days after. The Easter date calculator gives all of them for any year.

Ideas to plan around Easter
