How long until Valentine’s Day 2027
Valentine’s Day is always on February 14. In 2027, that is a Sunday. The countdown above aims at midnight, at the start of the day. If you booked a dinner, tap the time and set it to the hour of the reservation: the countdown then tells you exactly how long you have to get ready.
Who was Saint Valentine?
Early Christian tradition remembers at least two martyrs named Valentine on February 14: a priest in Rome and a bishop of Terni, in central Italy, both put to death in the 3rd century. The stories told about them in the Middle Ages, such as those in The Golden Legend, say nothing about love.
The link with romance appears in the 14th century. In his poem The Parliament of Fowls, Geoffrey Chaucer describes birds gathering “on seynt Valentynes day” to choose their mates. Other poets of the time, such as John Gower and Oton de Grandson, used the same idea. In 1415, Charles, Duke of Orléans, then a prisoner in the Tower of London, called his wife his “sweet Valentine”. Cards, flowers and chocolates came much later.

Ideas to plan ahead
- Book the table early, especially when the 14th is on a weekend.
- Order flowers a few days before: prices and delivery times climb in the last days.
- Send the countdown as a teaser: rename it “Our evening” and share the link.
- Count the days to another date, such as an anniversary, with the countdown to any date.
