St. Francis of Paola, April 2
A hermit from Calabria, Francis (1416-1507) founded the Minims, friars who kept a perpetual Lenten fast as a sign of humility. King Louis XI of France, dying, summoned him to his side, and Francis spent his last years in France. He is the patron of seafarers.
On the General Roman Calendar, April 2 is an optional memorial: Saint Francis of Paola, hermit.
