St. Onuphrius, June 12
Onuphrius lived alone in the Egyptian desert for some sixty years in the fourth or fifth century, clothed only in his long hair and a loincloth of leaves. A monk named Paphnutius found him shortly before his death and told his story. He is venerated in East and West.
June 12 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Onuphrius, hermit on this date.

Keeping June 12
June 12 falls in spring. Since the general calendar has no celebration that day, the Mass is usually that of the weekday of the season, and the saint may be remembered in local calendars or in personal prayer. Families who keep name days often mark the day with a card, a candle or a favorite meal, and parishes named after the saint may hold a festival.
