Sts. Protus and Hyacinth, September 11
Protus and Hyacinth were Roman martyrs of the third century. In 1845 the tomb of Hyacinth was found intact in the catacomb of Basilla, with his name inscribed and his remains wrapped in cloth. On this day the U.S. also remembers the victims of the attacks of 2001.
September 11 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saints Protus and Hyacinth, martyrs on this date.

Keeping September 11
September 11 falls in summer. Since the general calendar has no celebration that day, the Mass is usually that of the weekday of the season, and the saint may be remembered in local calendars or in personal prayer. Families who keep name days often mark the day with a card, a candle or a favorite meal, and parishes named after the saint may hold a festival.
