St. John Chrysostom, September 13
A great preacher of Antioch, John was made archbishop of Constantinople in 398. His sermons against the luxury of the court earned him the nickname Chrysostom, “golden mouth,” and two exiles; he died on the road in 407. The main liturgy of the Byzantine churches bears his name.
On the General Roman Calendar, September 13 is a memorial: Saint John Chrysostom, bishop and doctor.
