St. Anicetus, April 17
A Syrian by birth, Anicetus was pope from about 155 to 166. He received St. Polycarp of Smyrna in Rome to discuss the date of Easter; they did not agree but parted in peace. He opposed the Gnostic teachers active in Rome.
April 17 has no celebration on the General Roman Calendar, so this page follows the Roman Martyrology, which remembers Saint Anicetus, pope on this date.
