St. Bernadette Soubirous, April 16
Daughter of a poor miller in Lourdes, Bernadette (1844-1879) saw the Virgin Mary eighteen times in 1858. She later joined the Sisters of Charity of Nevers, where she died on April 16 and where her body lies on view. She was canonized in 1933.
