St. Martin de Porres, November 3
The son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed Black woman of Panama, Martin (1579-1639) became a Dominican lay brother in Lima. He cared for the sick, the poor and even animals, and founded an orphanage. He is the patron of social justice and of people of mixed race.
