A stream running over stones
The river is made live by your browser. Underneath, a steady current: a wide, soft flow of water that swells and settles a little over time. On top, small bubbles that rise in pitch very quickly, scattered from left to right, like water running over pebbles. The loop lasts 16 seconds and joins without a seam, so the stream never seems to start over.
Flowing water has a quality many people like for long sessions: it is steady like a noise, but it has small details, so it does not feel empty. It is lighter than ocean waves because there is no big rhythm, and more lively than pink noise.
Good moments for a river
| Moment | Why it works | Setting |
|---|---|---|
| Working or studying | Covers voices and office noise without a hiss | 1 hour, volume 3 to 4 |
| Reading | A calm background that is easy to forget | No limit, volume 3 |
| Falling asleep | Soft, with no sudden events | 30 to 45 min, volume 2 to 4 |
| Meditation | An outdoor feel, without birds or wind | 10 to 20 min |
For focused work, pair the river with the Pomodoro timer: 25 minutes of work, a short break, and the stream keeps running in the background. For sleep, the fade out at the end of the timer lasts up to two minutes, so the water seems to drift away.
River, rain or waves?
All three are water, but they feel different. Rain is steady and covers the most. Waves have a slow rhythm that invites you to breathe along. The river sits in between: steady, with small bubbles that keep it natural. You can switch between them while the sound plays: tap the sound name in the sentence and pick another one in the Nature family. The change is smooth, so you can compare them by ear and keep the one you stop noticing.
As with every sound here, lower is better. If you need to raise your voice to talk over it, turn it down.
